You know what they say about wealth inheritance?
Do you know what rich moms and dads worry about? Worrying that their kids will blow everything they've earned in one fell swoop, worrying that they won't study because they have too much money, worrying that they'll be addicted to material things and neglect mental things, worrying that they'll become boring assholes because they have too much money.
I'm full of worries.
But you don't need money to raise a great kid.
I've invested in a kid who's in the first grade.
Lego Mindstorms 100,000 won
MacBook Pro 300,000 won
2 million won for various electronic kits
8,000,000 won for all kinds of books
Three printers, 500,000 won.
This is all I can think of... It seems like a lot, but it's much better than unnecessarily expensive private education.
That's about 15 million won, but if you divide it by 6 years, that's 200,000 won a month. You can invest 200,000 won per month per child.
(Private education is not done at all except for math for 100,000 won a month for 1-2 years)
I'm laying a lot of groundwork with math right now, and depending on whether or not a middle schooler has fun with math, they'll either have to spend their high school years watching Hyun Woo-jin Donggang and thinking about rabbit eyes or worrying about quantum physics and the nature of the universe....
School exams?? It's kind of useless, but you have to do it to get into a school with a lot of good students. But there are many ways to get a good score without studying for the test, and that's through prior learning and solving a lot of problems that go beyond the usual test questions for fun.
It's not as easy as you might think to pass on wealth, and you're in a better position if you don't have it and make your child feel desperate.
Even if you only spend 200,000 to 300,000 won a month, you can raise a very good person.
In the end, I think it's more important to create an environment that stimulates children's immense curiosity than private education.
If you throw away private education, you don't have to live in Daechi-dong, you don't have to pay for hagwon, and you don't really need it~ The huge cost of private education is the cost of maintaining parental indifference.
